Introduction

The historical dimension of man’s quest for reality is an enquiry to the genesis and exodus of man’s enquiry into the subject of reality. The thesis is that philosophy emerged as a field of human thoughts about the social world. It all started with pushing human ideas and concepts to the breaking points on social ground. Philosophy investigates the social world’s entities from various perspectives, including logic of abstract phenomena, the nature of knowledge, matter, truth, mind all engulfed in the subject of reality. It first determines the truth, then applies logic and a cause-and-effect analysis to the event or thing. It is primarily concerned with organizing all human knowledge into logically connected systems based on causality and attempting to deduce.

In addressing the historical dimension of man’s quest for reality, this paper focuses on positivism, idealism, and critical realism. In addition, it discussed the key components of Nomothetic, Ideographic, and Paradigm triangulated Research. As a result, the paper attempts to navigate the entire Social Science Research process and bases its conclusion on the premise that research is replete with a plethora of philosophical stances and approaches, which is a major determinant of the historical dimension of man’s quest for reality.
