Mission/Objectives of the Covenant University CApIC-ACE Programme(s)

Africa at present has the urgent need for a massive impactful research in the areas of malaria, prostate and breast cancer, as well as cloud and high-performance computing as related to personalized medicine. CApIC-ACE was established to meet this need. The goal of the programme is to provide interested indigenous African scientists with the necessary bioinformatics, molecular biology, and information and communications engineering knowledge and skills for breakthrough in the areas of need aforecited. The programme provides research, training, innovation, and technology transfer which have all been beneficial to past collaborators of the programme and the scholars.

To build CApIC-ACE, Covenant University leveraged its current resources, including its malaria, FEDGEN (NIH H3ABioNet and WASLITBRe research networks and the German Science Foundation (aka DFG)-funded CaPTC cancer research project-as well as its own in-house resources and staff. For African health challenges like health education, medication efficiency, and early disease diagnosis, it aims to develop a Federated Genomic (FEDGEN) cloud infrastructure (with in-memory computing and cloud AI capabilities).

Covenant University CApIC-ACE Masters and PhD Degree Programmes: Funding, Student Benefits, and Areas of Specialties

Students from Nigeria and West and Central Africa are encouraged to apply to the African Centre of Excellence IMPACT project (ACE-IMPACT), which is being funded by the World Bank and houses the Covenant Applied Informatics and Communication Africa Centre of Excellence (CApIC-ACE). The program offers master’s and doctoral degree programs in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biochemistry and Information & Communication Engineering (ICE).

Successful applicants will have the option of receiving financial support and enrolling in intensive English Language Training for a period of three months.

Minimum Admission Requirements:

Master programme requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 (second class upper) from any recognized University in Nigeria, West or Central Africa.
  • Or Post Graduate Diploma with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 in the relevant disciplines.

 NOTE: that the minimum duration of this programme is full time of two academic sessions.

PhD programme requirements:

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from any recognized University in Nigeria, West or Central Africa.
  • Direct entry candidates must have a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a 5.0 scale or its equivalent in M.Sc./M.Eng/M.Tech and a minimum CGPA of 3.5 (second class upper) in the Bachelor’s degree.

NOTE: Candidates with professional Master’s degree are not eligible for the PhD programme. Minimum duration of PhD programme is full time of three academic sessions.
